Applus offer low, medium & high risk confined space training

Half Day Confined Space Appreciation

This course provides legal and working practice knowledge for those managing technicians who work within confined spaces.

Learning Objectives

  • knowledge of legal requirements
  • knowledge of confined space working practices

Course Overview

  • relevant legislation and regulations surrounding confined space
  • local documents, procedures and safe working systems
  • understanding what a confined space is and categorising

Delegates will be assessed on 2 practical exercises (using 10 minute escape sets) and 1 multiple choice knowledge test.

Course Length: 1/2 Day, £70 + VAT

Low Risk Confined Space Training Environments

This course provides delegates with a good knowledge of working within confined space where the probability of an abnormality existing regarding atmosphere or physical change to space is negligible, and where adequate precautions to negate the effects of potential hazards are in place.

Learning Objectives

  • how to prepare to work, enter and exit confined spaces safely
  • prepare and use appropriate respiratory protective equipment (RPE) for working and escape purposes
  • use equipment and tools safely
  • follow procedures and deal with emergencies
  • gain practical skills in a realistic environment

Course Overview

  • Confined Space – Legislation and regulations
  • Understanding the definition of Low Risk Confined spaces
  • Carry out risk assessments and discuss documentation that should be in place
  • Put monitoring equipment in place, check communications and atmospheric conditions

Delegates will be assessed on 2 practical exercises (using 10 minute escape sets) and 1 multiple choice knowledge test.

Course Length: 1 Day, £135 + VAT

Medium Risk Confined Space Training Environments

This course provides delegates with a good knowledge of working within a confined space where a hazardous environment is not immediately present, but has the potential to arise. E.g. sludge/sediment disturbance causing gas release or physical change to the environment.

Learning Objectives

  • how to prepare to work, enter and exit confined spaces safely
  • prepare and use appropriate respiratory protective equipment (RPE) for working and escape purposes
  • use equipment and tools safely
  • follow procedures and deal with emergencies
  • gain practical skills in a realistic environment

Course Overview

  • Understand why we need confined space training and what can go wrong
  • Understand confined spaces and identifying what can go wrong
  • Become familiar with equipment such as escape sets, gas monitors and harnesses
  • Legislation and regulations – what it covers
  • Discuss safe working systems including the permit to work and categorizing work space
  • Check equipment, implement safe system of work, put monitoring equipment in place, check communication systems, check atmospheric conditions, enter confined space with RPE and emergency evacuation techniques

Delegates will be assessed on 2 practical exercises (using 10 minute escape sets) and 2 multiple choice knowledge tests.

Course Length: 2 Days, £270 + VAT

High Risk Confined Space Training Environments

To provide delegates with a good knowledge of working within a confined space where a hazardous environment is present and hazards are expected.

Learning Objectives

  • How to prepare to work, enter and exit confined spaces safely
  • Prepare and use appropriate respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for working and escape purposes
  • Use equipment and tools safely
  • Follow procedures and deal with emergencies
  • Gain practical skills in a realistic environment

Course Overview

  • Legislation and regulations – what is covers
  • Discuss a High Risk Confined Space
  • Discuss safety working systems including; permit to work, categorising work space, risk
assessments, communication methods and BA – SBA/line
  • Prepare to enter confined space and carry out risk assessments, practice using SCBA and emergency exit confined space

Delegates will be assessed on 3 practical exercises (using 10 minute escape sets and SCBA) and 2 multiple choice knowledge tests.

Course Length: 2 Days, £300 + VAT
